'74 2.0L missing engine tin?
 

Fellow Pelicans,
I have a challenge to find a piece of engine tin which was missing on my car. Looks like the car had a dealer installed A/C system which has long since been removed. I would like to close the 'gap' in the engine tin but I'm missing a piece.

If anyone knows a source or a proper nomenclature to use in the classified section, please let me know! Any condition is essentially okay as long as it isn't swiss cheese. I will blast and restore.

This is one of the last pieces needed before I put the engine back in after an engine removal, battery tray replacement, engine bay clean and repaint and degreasing/cleaning of 40+ years of grime from the underside of the car!

The front piece of tin was actually cut to make room for the AC compressor. To fix it "right" you would want the whole front piece. (The left-front corner is separately removable to help with alternator R&R, but the right-front corner was not.)

Thanks for the reply. I have a 'cut tin' which came off my '74 but it was the right side piece. I had another set of tin from a '75 2.0L which served as my 'donor'. The front piece had either been cut very well for an A/C install or may have been another piece all together as it was not visually altered (the cut must have been very well done).
So, I suppose I am instead in the market for a non-A/C front engine tin piece. I will refinish it to match the rest of the tin I suppose.....
Do most people simply leave the gaping hole in the corner instead when an A/C compressor is removed?

I think those pieces were made both ways, one a solid piece and one that the corner bolts on. I have no idea when or why the change took place but I have both. I actually have the complete non-bolt together piece extra, that you are welcome to for just what ever it costs to ship. If I can figure out how to post a picture I have photographed both the spare piece and my spare engine that has the bolt together piece (looks just like your photo, with the missing piece). I am actually looking for the bulkhead piece that runs side to side on the flywheel side, if you happen to have an extra. I have been on this forum far too long to not know how to post a photo...oh well...I'm old! Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I have found a piece to satisfy my need from another Pelican. It wasn't 'free + shipping though'!
In any case, I have an extra rear tin piece that you describe. I'm not able to take a photo of it right now but give me some time to get back to where the engine is stored.

I have the same problem described in this thread. My '76 2.0L had AC and it has been removed. I'm in need of the engine tin to fill the hole left in the right front of the engine compartment under the battery tray.

Post a WTB in the Classifieds. You may also, depending on the original installer, need to repair the engine shelf on the body. It should be very much like the left side, complete with a channel to hold the rubber seal.
