Turn signal automatic shut-off

What did I screw up? I changed my original steering wheel to my trusty MOMO yesterday and now the automatic shut-off of the turn signal when the wheel returns to center doesn't work. Anybody had this problem? I removed the turn signal/wiper module from the steering column to take a look and it looks to be held together with tiny rivets. I didn't want to tear into that for fear of not being able to put it all back together. I'm hoping there's an easy fix.

Re: Turn signal automatic shut-off

You need to remove the collar from the back of the stock wheel and attach it to the momo adapter. I don't know how to describe it well. It's a round ring that has 3 screws holding it onto the back of the steering wheel. There is a 1/2" (give or take) deep protrusion that engages a prawl to kick the signal lever off when the steering wheel returns to center.

Make sure you note its position so you can get it in the right spot the first time. I didn't and I learned how to take the steering wheel off really fast... like when the horn wouldn't shut off!

I know about the collar and it's attached. Also the 1/2" (give or take) protrusion is positioned correctly at approximately 3 o'clock when the wheel is straight. A small piece of metal about 2" long, 1/8" wide fell out of the steering column during installation. I think this piece is the culprit. I don't know where it goes but I suspect it's some kind of spring involved in the automatic shut-off operation.

I just finished putting a quick release and Momo steering wheel on my 914. I had a problem with the 3 holes on the Momo hub not quite lining up. had to drill all 3 holes on that 1/2'' notch plate slightly larger. Check and make sure that plate is perfectly centered on the hub. If it's slightly off one side it might too far off for that notch to hit the button that cancels the blinkers. Also check and see if that little button (right at the 3 o'clock position on the inside of the white plastic ring) comes out when you put the turn signal lever up or down with the steering wheel and hub off. Hope this helps, Ralph Gosnell
