Euro 1.8L photos

Here is the mythical 1.8L dual carbed engine...

I think that it may be from a bus or 411 because of the heat exchangers on it...but the 914 version should be very similar...

Here is a description:

VOLKSWAGEN double-piston engine, 1.8 L, Porsche 914, VOLKSWAGEN 411, VOLKSWAGEN 412. Such or similar engines are in the following vehicles: VOLKSWAGEN Porsche 914, VOLKSWAGEN 411, VOLKSWAGEN 412, VOLKSWAGEN bus (air-cooled). This engine is called also type 4. It ran only very few hours. That applies also to the carburetor, generator, heat exchanger and all other parts at this engine. In addition the engine has a connection for an external oil cooler (does not have to be attached however, there also an internal oil cooler with oil filter is present).

The heat exchangers say 411 or 412 to me. Might be Bus though.

The air cleaner looks just like the one from the Euro-spec 1.8 914 motor. The carbs ditto, though I had thought that the manifolds would be taller somehow. I'll have to look at my Euro owner's manual again...

I once helped out a neighbor with a valve job on a bus that had a dual solex setup like that, though I don't remember the air cleaner being like that. I think it was a 78
