Remove heater controls y fresh air box..
This is my post I left on 914world: Any hints would be much obliged.
_______________________ I'm in the process of trying to extract bit's from a "parts car" that mine doesn't have. I got the gas tank out last night and hope to tackle the ventilation system this evening. (Tho I'm also trying to extract the wiring harness. Should I do that first?) Also would help if i could get the dash off too. (This is my first "try to save and not destroy what you need" project. ANY advice is appreciated….) |
I think there are ten plastic nuts that hold the dash cap on. I know there have been photo threads on the World that show them; maybe here as well. The two most difficult ones are at the front of the instrument binnacle; you can only see the edges of the nuts and you wind up able to turn them less than 1/4 of a turn at a time, which makes unscrewing them pretty tedious.
There are a couple of nuts out at the ends of the cap, which you get to by removing the fresh air vents. Not sure how you can get at them with the early cars that don't have the vents. Maybe from underneath? Underneath is how you get at the rest of them, though. The air box is old and usually pretty brittle by this point. So be super super careful when removing it. --DD |
Thanks bunches Dave.
I was looking last night and I'm assuming that what I thought was rivets were plastic nuts? Heading to the dungeon to continue the process! |
This thread may help for removing the dash:
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=42757 Also, getting the fresh air box out is not easy, but fairly straightforward based on disconnecting the cables and unbolting the three or four bolts that hold it in place. I'm not sure if you have to remove the dash or not to get the controls out, but there is one bolt that holds the controls to the front firewall (10 mm?). Disconnect that, the cables, and the ground wires and you may be able to slide it under the dash. |
BLESS THEE Beatnavy!! That was indeed GOLD!

Ok, I've gotten the wheel off and the hex screw out that holds the ignition/signals/wipers switch but, it seems to be hangin on a clip at the end of the column. How does one remove this?
|
Do not try to take the drain hoses off the air box or you will probably break it. Take it out with them attached.

I'm back at doing battle with the circlip from hell.
Itcdoes NOT want to release the wiper/turn signal/assembly! Any hints would be much obliged! On to other things. I'll check in later. |
Update, learned hoe to remove bolts from universal joint. DOH!!
|
Long time no type. (Work, respiratory issues yadday.. )
NOW…. IS is possible to remove the cables from the sliders on the dash controls? OR… Is it best to remove them from the flapper boxes in the frunk. Then again…What's best? |
No remove from the trunk ,make sure you mark there relative position on the heater demister valves, try not to bend the little retaining clips otherwise they can be a b#tch to get back on.
Good luck. |
Blessing's upon thee Tubb!!!
Grazi tutti!! |
