Unhappy Synchro Ring Costs!!!!!

Trying to source some synchro rings out for my tranny rebuild!

Of course I'd like to support the hosts of this board, but let me tell you what's going on...

Ottos had them listed on their website for $18.50 each. I thought... Alright, let's get a whole set, so I ordered online. Otto e-mailed me that I obviously knew that the prices had recently quadrupled and that I must be trying to grease him up! Ottos told me they are now $52.00 each. Then update the website!

Further investigation shows...

Pelican has them for $47.50... competitive

AA for $39.95 (plus ungodly shipping I'm sure)

Tweeks and Performance Products catalogs listed them for $24.95 and $29.00 respectively, but when calling the prices had been recently raised to $79.00 and $63.00. EACH! Ouch!

Can anyone suggest any sources for synchros at better prices?

e-mail me privately at kellzey@iepg.com

Regards

Wow! I just checked several sources and they all have just about doubled in price or are not available.

What gives?

I going to have to believe that Pelican is still probably the least expensive around, they usually are....

James

maybe this is one of those times you ask for a VW part instead of a Porsche part

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Ahhhhhhhh - exclusive control of a commodity in a given market to control fixing of prices and elimination of free competition combined with minimal outlet sources who share the same ambition.

Uhhhhhhhhhh - Porsche?

Ok - I took my shot

Someone's gotta pay for that Cayenne tooling.....
This is exactly why talk about the Porsche mystique makes me want to hurl. Mystique=brand equity=profit margins. Frankly, their mystique is over-rated bulls**t they exploit to charge stupid prices for things - especially parts. It kills the resale of most of the cars they've built (numerically at least), and I think stupidly erodes the potential enthusiast pool - their entry level car is anything over 10 years old!
In a recent issue of Panorama, their director was crowing about their profit margins to the PCA annual awards gala. I think he mistook customers for shareholders, or perhaps is so arrogant not to know the difference. I'd have thrown a bun at him.
Love my 914, but I ain't buyin' the hype. I make a point of sourcing alternative parts direct from the same OE vendors whenever I can.
