I switched from Norton/Symantec to Trend Micro a while back. Works Gud. www.antivirus.com
Unfortunately, no end in sight to this virus crap. It has been 15 years since I ran into some of the first ones. Good luck JP

Yeah, it's spamming everyone you've enver sent an email to. If it helps, here's what my norton says it is:
This file: "Word97 Uninstall.nfo.scr" was infected with: "W32.Bugbear@mm" virus. The file was deleted by Norton AntiVirus. Sunday, November 24, 2002 10:30 Good luck on getting rid of it -- you might try downloading a virus specific solution (don't bother with symantec... oh, you know they suck already

Yuppers, I got one too, and I didn't get you anything Jp. I feel so bad.
I suggest you go to Symantec's site and down load FxBgBear. it's a utility file that cleans up your system and gets rid of the Bugbear virus as well as the trojan it installs. It is faily small and can download in a minute or so and only takes about 5 minutes to clean your puter. Doan ask me how I know. Oh, all right, I'll fess up. I recently upgraded to XP pro and didn't get around to re-installing NAV 2002. I opened up the Virus from JP and got nailed. Didn't take long to realize or to fix it. After that you can re-install the NAV and all will be right with the world again. Funny thing about this virus, some versions use names in your inbox and contacts list and can replicate itself and send it to everyone, but can make it look like it came from someone else. Funny stuff. I wish I knew who wrote it. I'd clamp his nuts in a vice for a while. I wonder how many virus' are reated by anti-virus people? Seems like an easy way to increase sales. |

I had to do this to a friends PC as well. Bugbear renders the AV software (pre updated) useless. If you load AV software on an infected machine it will not work correctly either. It took me a couple of tries to get it done right, and I think there's a file you need to delete manually. Follow the instructions and you should be OK.

I did a online scan from symantec. That found bugbear.
Nuked it with their fix, reloaded Norton and it still doesn't work right. Downloaded their upgrades and scaned again....nuthin'. I'll just keep hacking at it. Symantec doesn't return my mail pleas for help......chumps.

I owe you. I did what you suggested and downloaded their 30 day free trial. Found *another effin' virus*. When the 30 days is up, I'll buy into it. I have to admit that this whole experience had made more aware of how this whole thing works.....I really didn't want to know.....just wanna punch the buttons. As long as we have pros like Chris around, I can do that. Anyone wanna buy a 2003 Norton cd for cheep?

What virus did trend find that NAV missed?
What problem were you having with NAV before you found that last virus, did it have anything to do with the subscription services? Tanks. |

It screws with all the AV system.
It woudn't surprise me if it messes with coms between Synmantec and your puter. The Micro Trends on line scan cleans up the puter so you CAN load an AV program. My Mcafee wuz fat, dumb, happy, and unaffected.....the virus prolly recognized that it was not a threat.
