914 Brake conversion
I am going to be doing a 911 brake conversion to my 914. Need a 5 lug setup with the 911 master cylinder, calipers, rotors, etc. Was wondering if any of you pros out there know all the parts necessary to complete this task successfully.
911 Brakes: Rotors, calipers, 5 lug setup, 911 master cylinder. Anything else? If I get the units off as a whole, don't they just bolt right on? or is there a slight modification that is neccesary. Also, any advice would be greatly appreciated. ![]() Thanks. |

Rez,
Check the 914 tech articles for 5 lug conversion. You'll find what your asking for there along with pics. Yes, the upgrade is a true bolt on.......no cutting, welding required. You can also use the search feature. This has been discussed many times in the past. I just finished my 5 lug conversion last week so procedure is still fresh in mind. Let me know if anything you read is not clear. John

Yes, search as John said. You'll probably want to swap out the proportioning valve with a T. It's also the time to install turbo tie rods if you are so inclined.

I figured they were a straight bolt on. Sorry for bringing this endless topic up. =)

I have 8X15" BBS's with the std 914/911 offset all round, running 245-50/15 Dunlop Sp8000s. Haven't put them on the car yet, but according to the 914 racer I purchased the wheels from, this setup works and looks great with no spacers. (They'd BETTER fit!) Looking at a local flared six with 7" Fuchs on the front, it appears a 1" spacer (and longer studs of course) would help fill the fender.

From all I have heard, a 16X6 rim, or 15X6.. I think 15X6 to prevent rubbing, with a 205/50 tire will bairly fit in the rear of a 914 on a stock fender. Even that size is pushing it. I think a 195 series wide will fit for sure though. I guess I'll have to find out soon enough.

Rez,
Check my thread "rear suspension adjustments" on page 2. I was able to get 7's on rear with 205/55/16s with a little work. John

930 turbo brakes
I'm going with the 930 brakes f&r w/working parking brake.
Is it expensive, YES about $4,000 Dose that seem crazy for a car that's 28 years old, worth about $3,000 YES Then why? 1. 911 & 930 Brake parts are more available (alot 914 parts are NLA like the 914-6 rear brakes). 2. The larger brake area not only helps stopping power but, also much longer brake pad life. 3. If you can afford it, go for it. If not a good rebuild of the stock system will be good enough for many. 4. That's what's so good about this BBS, some of us keep are 914's bone stock, some love to customize em, some love to race em, and we have alot of friends here with knowledge to help us out when in need. Good luck with your project, Ralph |
