Deck Lid Removal

Is the deck lid as easy to remove and replace as it looks? It'd sure be nice to have a (little) extra room whilst wrenching. I almost took it off yesterday but this little thingy in the recesses of me brain said huh-uh (sumpins gonna go sproingggggg! )

Bruce,

Yes it is that easy. Just those 2 bolts where it attaches to the firewall. The only thing you want to be careful of is not banging it against any other painted surface when you remove it, as you might scratch something. It's not spring loaded.

You gain so much extra room to work!!

Wink deck lid

Bruce it comes off easy but can be a pain to realign - so here's the hot tip for the day. on the bottom mouting bracket, where the 2 bolts are, Mark on the deck lid hinge itself, with masking tape where the hinges are aligned. This will give you a reference point to where it needs to go for the reinstall. You'll note that once you loosen it, it will slide foward and reward. Also, it is easiest to remove and install with the deck lid in its most open possition. This upright possiton removes the tension you might encounter. And dont forget to throw down a blanket on your trunk lid to avoid scratches!

I hated removing that thing. I tried to remove the trunk lid by myself once, worked out fine. Then I had to reinstall it, no fun by myself. Good thing my car's body isn't in great shape to begin with!
