Model 914s for the Holidays?
Along with being a relatively new 914 owner, I also like building scale models. I've been trying to get my hands on the 1/20 Entex 914 kit, with no success so far. However, there are some 1/43 scale 914s out there. I thought maybe someone else would like to see what's out there. The Mini Racing and Pit models are resin kits, while the others are prebuilt. The prices are in Italian Lire; the current exchange rate is 1 USD = 1,933.40 ITL so one of the mini racing kits would be $36.72 or so. Heres the web site I found these kits at:

Brian, Good list. I didn't know the Pit kits were still available. I've built a couple. They're are a little more difficult than kits like Provence Moulage or Mini-Racing.
Check out Island Collectibles: http://www.islandcollectibles.net/prod0221.htm The VRC line has a few 1/24 resin 914's, including the Lemans Sonauto car. I want one! Since you're used to the 1/43 resin prices you won't be too shocked by the 1/24 prices! Mike |

Ooh yeah! Those are the ticket!
I still want the Entex kit, I've got a 20th scale Entex Super Beetle, as well as a 4 door Rabbit, that it would look great with! But at least one of those is in my future!

I visited the Icaro site and was checking the Pit listing. there are actually several more 914's than those listed by Brian, including the two factory 914-8's.

Oops thats right...there were more further down the pretty big PIT list. The descriptions of the 8's looked pretty cool!

Along with the ENTEX 1/20 914 there is a BANDAI 1/20 914 that has an electric motor with the kit. Which I have both of those in my collection. There is a MINICHAMP (PAULS MODEL ART) 1/43 914 that is a black euro version, euro front and rear lenses and 914VW porsche name badge on the back . Most of the oines that I have seen lately have a top on them, the one I have which I got about 5 months ago has no top. It also has the 5.5 VW Sport bug wheels.Chrome bumpers front and rear. Really a cute little diecast.
I have many other 914 diecasts in my collection, after looking at the ICARO site I will be adding a few more to my collection. Curious most of them are priced at 83.00 is that lire or USD. If lire how much USD? Craig C. Laughlin CAMP 914

I think it means 8300 lire. That would be somewhere around 40 bucks I guess.
Are the Bandai and Entex kits the same plastic? And if you ever want to sell one....

Most of the PIT kits are supposedly NLA.....I had checked into them a while back through Roberto (Icaro). They are also not nearly (in general) as nice as the Mini-Racing kits. When ordering the Mini-Racing kits.....generally be prepared to WAIT for them to become available. I think I waited 8 or 9 months for the last ones I bought from Roberto.........
The VRC kits have a decent body, and the castings are ok, but the detailing is very sparse - they were originally designed as slot car bodies and then adapte to curbside models. But if you want 1/24, that's all there is out there except for the old Revell 1/25 crap.......

I have heard that as well (lack of detail on the big resin kits). But I'm getting better at scratchbuilding stuff, so I'm not quite as leery of this type of project. I'd want to convert the /6 into a replica of my car though, so lots of work is necessary.

I thought I would list a few of the sources I use for models. I have had good experiences with all of these.
http://www.grandprixmodels.co.uk/ http://www.mafma.com/ http://www.hlj.com/ http://www.islandcollectibles.net/prod0221.htm Are there others that you are aware of and that offer good service? Mike |

My biggest problem is that I don't buy that many car models - I like aircraft and scifi, but also do ships and armor once in a while. 43rd scale cars are kind of a niche of their own.
For military stuff the best site is Squadron Online For a great index search (lets say, put in Mustang and you will get all Mustang models, aftermarket parts, decals, etc) try GreatModels Hobby Link Japan is a great place and several of us in the local model club use them. Brian
