Roll 'em

I was wondering how exactly one rolls fenders and if anyone has some pics of how far you have rolled yours out.

Anyone?

I don't want to have to put flares on, if I absolutely don't have to.

The tire rack "rents" a tool to do it.

Use a baseball bat placed on the tire and roll the bat.

I recommend a WOOD baseball bat. It will take abuse a metal one wont and I would rather the bat take the abuse and not the fender. I have rolled mine quite a bit to fit 911 Fuchs 7" with 205/55 in the rears. I have enough room to fit a 225 if I want, but thats it. The tire will rub on the inside (shock absorber) if I go any larger.

FWIW rolling really just implies bending or folding the inner "lip" upwards...this will only get you 1/2-3/4" of clearance at best.

Most guys also simultaneously pull the fenders themselves outwards. You need room for sidewall deflection and suspension motion so just being able to mount the wheel/tire on the car while it sits static on the ground is not sufficient.

My car isn't at home yet but I will take pics when I can. A wooden bat and section of 2x4" were used on mine.

thanks JP, that string both frightened and intrigued me.

It is kinda spooky knowing that after the first swing of the hammer you are finishing the job whether you like it or not.

I does look tough though.
