Rusty rotors on stored 914
I'm putting the 914 back on the road again after nine years in garage storage so I have a lot of work ahead of me. The brake rotors have a moderate amount of surface rust (no pitting) on them. The pads have <10K miles on them. The car is never raced or pushed to its limits (dry weather daily driver).
Question: Do I need to remove the rotors and use steel wool to bring them back to a bright smooth surface, or will using (maybe intermittently riding) the brakes take off the rust? Thanks for any ideas. |
Just use the brakes, they should scrub off surface rust pretty quickly.
If it's more than just surface rust, the rotors should be replaced. But it sounds like it's not that serious, so driving the car should do it. --DD |
