side window fuzzy channel ? - HELP ?
 

The side windows are a but loose in vertical front and back channels, causing rattle. While replacing door handle, I thought I'd take a look at this too.

Received and installed long front fuzzy for vertical guide and short rear fuzzy for vertical guide.

Went to put window back in and realized that it will not fit with the four small wheels on metal part that is attached to front edge of side window.

?? Can I simply remove this whole metal part or are the little wheels as good as it gets ??

Any help will be appreciated.

I think I know what you're talking about. I did my fuzzy channel seals before and didn't have to mess with the metal part or the wheels. the window will go back in with a little bit of maneuvering.

Do you mean you removed the metal and wheels ?

I don't see the window fitting WITH those parts and the new fuzzy too.

no, I did not remove anything. took the window out in one piece and put it back in the same way.

What year is your car? I just noticed that the replacement fuzzys I got from 'T' say 73-76. My car is an early 73. Perhaps this is the problem.

In haste I removed the metal parts in question and put the window in. It's stiff and doesn't stay straight. Nothing is simple.

Is there a difference between early and late side windows?

Jubal The early 914s 1970 to early 1973 had no front or rear window channel fuzzy. A metal strip was attached on the leading edge of the side windows and plastic rollers were used to keepand align the glass in the frame. You would have to change the complete door.

I suspected somthing like that. I'm not going to replace the doors.

Now I guess I'll try to put it back together the way is was. RATTLE - RATTLE.

This stuff can be so frustrating at times. Wonder what the going price for an early L-side window is...

Perhaps I can turn some new little plastic wheels, just slightly bigger.

ahhhh...this makes much more sense now. we both have/had '73's, mine not an early one I guess. from your talk about metal and wheels I figured the only thing it could have been was what is attached at the bottom of the window. I thought you were having problems getting the window back inside the door. sorry to confuse you even more!

I was looking at my 72 the pther day and noticing that I didnt have any channel fuzzies. Thought I was going to have to get some...guess not now.

Jubal, does your door have a geared lever arrangement to lift the windows, or a sliding cable arrangement? The geared levers are the late-style window setup, and the sliding cable is the early-style setup.

AFAIK, all the window/glass/lifter/fuzzy/etc. parts change to "early style" or "late style" together.

My car was built in 9/73 #1111. I belive it's the sliding cable / early-style.

Now trying to put it back to original.

So, I also have an early (1970) style sliding cable window regulator. My window is out of adjustment. The back corner of the window, doesn't crank high enough. When the front corner of the window (the corner that meets the window triangle) reaches maximum height, the rear corner still has about 1/2 inch to go. At that point I can pull it up with my hand because it is loose (but it doesn't stay).

On the later window regulators, there is a cool adjusting bolt exactly for this sort of adjustment but I don't see a similar adjusting mechanism for the early sliding cable system.

Any advice?

You will find two(2) adjustment screws for the winding height(up) asnd one for the lateral tilt athe front of the door, these are located under the door, so you are going to have to get down on the ground. The screw you want to adjust is the one further forward, make small adjustments try it and then either stop or adjust.
The other thing you may want to do is remove the door panel and make sure everything on the window glass is in place. I have had a couple of the early cars where the weld on the piece that secures to the glass had broken leaving the glass to kind of flop around in the channel.
