Hey you sawzall madmen
I am editing my initial post and reviving this thread as I have had limited success so far. I have located a NOS lower firewall, a pass side engine shelf piece, a new batt box and maybe some sail panels.
For those of you who emailed me in the past, please recontact me. If someone out there actually has hacked up a 914 themselves and has any parts to sell, fire away. I need: - both quarter panels - inner and outer rocker panels -door sills -door jamb panels (where the strikers attach) - the metal to which the outer rear suspension point picks up (suspension console area). - outer floor area where it meets the doors and firewall. I know this sounds daunting, but it's really a complete car. Literally everything on the car is operational. I drove it the other day. I'm still on the "it can be fixed" mindset. I am also pursuing dry tubs for sale within a few hours driving time from Pittsburgh. Thanks in advance.

I'd advise you to buy new replacement parts where you can. If your keeping the car, it's better to start off with new metal than using 30 yr old stuff. I think all the parts you need are available except for the quarter panels and there are some nice ones coming soon from metalshapers.

What can you tell me about the new quarters? I haven't heard about them. Thanks,

Boy, that sounds like an awful lot of work; it's probably been suggested before, but you'll be way ahead to part with the cost for a roller and freight from CA than to monkey with a car with that much rust. I think B Roberts even had a 1.8 listed recently pretty cheap (under $1,000), and if it's rust-free, that plus $800 freight will get you there a lot faster. I only had to replace the battery tray and rear trunk panel on mine, as well as doing preventive POR-15 in a lot of areas and the floor, and that even took quite an effort. Good luck.
