Fans and timing marks

For the '73 fans, are the timing marks different between the 1.7 and 2.0 engines?

Thanks,

Paul

Nope. They are timed identically--27 deg BTDC at 3500 RPM vacc hoses disconnected.

If you have any doubts, check for the timing mark one fan blade to the right of one of the four big "posts" that join the front and back halves of the fan.

The 1.8 fans are marked differently, as are many of the VW (411/412/Bus) fans, and all replacement fans.

Thanks Dave. Well, I found a major problem on my car last night. I got to thinking, the engine that i am now using came from a wrecked car. The guy hit pretty hard because the front end was shortened by about two feet, maybe even more. Anyways, he hit hard enough to cause the engine to shift, and I am guessing that the fan, while spinning, hit the firewall and caused it to shear the little moon shaped pin that holds the fan in the right place on the crank...

So, I took off the fan, while in the engine, and took out the pin and replaced it. I also put on the original 2.0L fan because the other fan, I had broken two blades off of not 180 degrees from each other...

I originally used that fan because it didn't have any broken blades, and the 2.0L fan did...but now the 2.0L fan has two broken blades 180 degrees off of each other so it should be a little better balanced than just having one blade knocked off.

Today I get the ECU tester!!! Oh boy. I hope that all is well, but I will find out.

Thanks again,
Paul
