Clutch pedal/cable issue

'75 914, the throttle cable ferule (sp?) on the firewall that allows the throttle cable to pass into the engine comp came undone, so the the throttle pedal wouldn't move as the cable was being caught at an odd angle on the opening.

Quick fixed it (the metal overlapping piece that housed the engine comp section of the trottle cable never fit very well onto the firewall ferule, I took a screw down fastener and tightened it over both pieces, and it seems to work for now, enough maybe to get me through winter..

Anyways, replaced the pedal board backing, but now the clutch pedal won't engage? I depress the clutch pedal, but grind gears as if the clutch was still engaged. I did play around with the throttle cable in the spine/tunnel near the pedal assembly, did I unhook something by accident?

Does the tension on the clutch pedal seem normal?
Is the pedal board rubbing on the pedal cluster anywhere?
Is the clutch cable connected properly on the pedal cluster?
It sounds as though your clutch cable became loose somehow. Like there is too much slack in it. A misadjusted clutch cable will keep you from being able to shift gears and will cause the grinding.

Did you mess with the clutch pedal stop? You might not be getting full travel.

Was the pedal board in the car when you replaced it or something new that you added ? If it's newly added the Pedal board will stop the clutch from traveling as far as it did previously, if that is the case you need to adjust your clutch cable
