Question rotary engine in a 914

does any one know of some one who has put a rotary in a 914? I know kennedy makes an adapter for this. besides from the fact that it is water cooled, it is fairly smal and light weight compared to a 911 6cylinder. and can make lots of power, fairly reliable if you don't go overboard on the boost. I'm looking for another option. was thinking 3.2-6.

Yeah, it will fit but they are not torque monster motors. My son and I put a turbo 2 motor in a 1st Gen RX7 about 250hp. Never really got it 100% done before it was stolen. The police found it last week minus everything and smashed up.
In a 914 you will have to do a really nice radiator as they get really hot. The intercooler too should be a challenge.

I think it could be a very cool conversion, done right. Those motors rev really fast and high, and can be built to make some killer horsepower. Keep us posted; I know I'll be interested in anything you find out...

The biggest problem I had with our Rotary powered cars:

Exhaust heat

and exhaust noise.

The 914 short exhaust doesnt work well with a noisy Rotary engine.

The heat these little engines generate out the exhaust will melt paint.

IMHO, go with the 3.2

Heat and noise! We ran the turbo2 motor with just the down pipe and that was loud!!!
You will have to use all stainless piping and muffler rated for a rotary due to the heat ie. Mazdatrix or RacingBeat.
Nothing like slam shiftin at 8500rpm, woohoo!
We got the motor from Japan a late 91 Turbo 2 for $1500 with less than 50,000 miles on it.

Supposedly there was one in the 70' I just bought. It still has a radiator up front among other things for it. I should be getting the engine too(if he remembers where he put it). The reason he took it out was he couldn't keep it cool. In looking at the little radiator without a fon on it I'm not surprised. If I get the motor I may explore that option a little bit. I have the motor mount bar for the rotory engine allready. So it might be worth a shot. We'll see but it is a viable option. Keeping it cool will be the trick but it's easily doable. Good luck & keep us posted
