914 ignition wiring
I purchased a new ignition switch for a 71 and there are 6 wires on the old switch and only 4 on the new one.
I understand the buzzer wire is not needed and has been left off the new switch, but how the heck can I figure out which wires to use? and which one is not needed? especially since the black and yellow wire, which I thouht was to the starter, is the one that is not on the new switch. I have studied the wire diagram, and unfortunately, the red wire on the diagram, says it goes to 35, which is of no help at all to me. Anyone have any experience rewiring a switch for a 71? Thanks in advance! JIm

Well, I guess I figured it out. the new switch will not allow for control of the lights. Ill have to steal power to them from somewhere else..

UGH! so the new ignition switch fits into the housing just fine, it even has the right outter casing, and looks identical to the original switch. HOWEVER, it seems out of phase, and to get it to match up with the key it has to be placed into position two, when the key is in position one. so once installed, it only turns one click, and therefor it does not fit and does not work UGH!
the original part is NLA. anyone have any suggestions on how to replace a broken igintion switch when the part is NLA? I dont really want to install a push button or toggle start if I can help it.
