Where the heck is the proportioning valve?
 

For the past 4 days ive bled the brakes twice and rebuilt the front calipers.. and now my brakes still are terrible, they used to not be spungy but suck very badly, then i rebuilt the fronts and their better but now their spongy, they still brake like *****. going to be ordering some rear caliper rebuilds but Where is the proportioning valve, i read in "How to restore and modify your 914" that it is "the source of all your spongy pedal problems" So where the heck is it?

It is located on the lower firewall near the alternator. (Driver's side).

OR..

It is located on the lower firewall above the driver's side air- deflector.

The proportioning valve is on the lower firewall just about behind the drivers butt. Follow the hard brakelines from the rear calipers below the engine cooling tin. I tend to dissagree with the opinion that the prop. valve is the cause of most 914 braking problems though. MORE spongy 914 brakes are due to poor or incomplete bleeding than anything. (My opinion) I've said this before, but the best $42.00 I've ever spent on my brakes was a Power Bleeder. It really forces ALL the air out of the lines and the calipers. My brakes are stock accept for braded lines and drilled rotors (here we go again) and my pedal is rock solid!
