Hre is a technical one...How does my cigarette lighter work?

I am ashamed to expose ineptness as to electrical engineering but I was wondering why this wont work. Lighter was old and cruddy and wouldn't stay stuck in. Plugged cell phone thing into it and socket worked so juice is evident (albeit intermitently). Got brand new shiny lighter....plugged it in...it too wont stay smooshed in. What is wrong? Sorry to take up valuable weekend bbs space with trivial question!.

Look inside lighter receptacle, there should be two small fingers. Try bending in the two small fingers. If not there and lighter function is necessary, replacement would be necessary.

Make sure you do it with the fuse out or the battery unpluged!!! Or it will be like playing an expensive game of "Operation"!!!

It is a fine line of having the "fingers" too loose and too tight. You will have to play with it.

I think that the 914 cig lighter is too big for the standard cig adaptors of today. My cell phone (no 914 should leave home without it, that and a complete set of tools) and CD player don't work really well either. I'd put a new "power point" ($5 at Radio Shack) somewhere under the dash (you can get creative and try to hide it) if you want your cell phone to work all the time.
