Rim measurements for '74 914?

What are the proper rim measurements: Backspacing and offset if I want to put on 6 inch wheels? I'd like to run 195/60 or 65 on the car.

Backspacing and offset are very closely related. Here is a picture that illustrates:

(The left side of the image is toward the centerline of the car.)

Around 4.5" to 5" of backspace is the right ballpark for fitting 195s or 205s under stock fenders.

Porsche 6x15 wheels (5 bolt - Cookies or Fuchs) are 36mm offset. A 195 fits from a 5.5-7" wide wheel.
