Wire routing.
Is there a "stock" or "best practice" wire routing from the distributor to the spark plugs?
I know it's short and simple, but mine are just laying around . Are there supposed to be clips or retainers anywhere to keep the wires off of hot spots or to prevent abrasion? --Case... |
Mine are the same way & I've tried various placements. None seem to be very good. I've seen them placed inside a conduit of sorts. It looks like black ribbed plastic similar to stereo wiring conduit but withstands the heat. Makes for a clean & tidy bay.
If they lay too close together within a conduit would they deteriorate or cause loss of wire integrity (spark loss)??? Often wondered about that when seeing ignition wires tied together. bruce |
My '74 2.0 has a small metal bracket attached to the the single stud on the flywheel side of the oil filler tower. It has a plastic clip which holds the two wires going to 1 & 2. The clip has a round "half ball" which fits in a hole in the bracket. There is a hole the same size in the shroud near the stamped "4" . It looks like a clip could be pressed in there as well to hold the wires for 3 & 4. Mine is missing. I will check PET and see if I can find a part #. Maybe they are still available.

Found 'em. 113 905 451 A 1.7 takes 3 of them, 1.8/2.0 take 2.
I think 113 means VW part so may be available there. |
I have the little stock plastic pieces that clip to the engine tin. The wire routing to 1 & 2 goes under the intake.
This is on a '75. |
Can someone take a pic please? Just one more thing mines missing! Thanks, I think.
