Rebuilt Rear Caliper
What's the big deal about not splitting the rear caliper? Both Haynes & Lash Int. manuals do not recommend it. It says that alignment of the two housings are critical for automatic adjustment. I know I just answered my own question, but I 'd like to know why these guys think its too difficult for us uncertified mechanics. The only problem I encountered was that the pistons were threaded into the cylinder by the adjusting screw. Neither manual states this, so beware when you do this yourself. Simply applying compressed air will not push the piston out of its cylinder. You have to unscrew the piston then remove it by hand. Air is not needed. And a compliment for Wayne. The rebuild kit that I order from you came with everything, including the housing o-rings. Big thanks Wayne.

Speedemon666,
Thanks for the tip. I have the rebuild kits and after I do a couple chores around the house, I'm diggin in. |
In addition...
You may want to check the Tech article I wrote on this procedure here on your ever-so-informative Pelican Parts Website. It is very straightforward and I think most of the major points are covered. I'm glad that Wayne is providing full kits now. Do they include the 2 o-rings for the adjuster screws? They were one of the other things missing from the kits previously.

Crud, i split them without even thinking. i Did clean it better than I would have if i hadent split it. Even worse it put the old rubber back in because the kit wasnt right. and to make things worse im going to put some 320i's on in the front once i machine it and I STILL need to buy brake lines, arggg http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat5.gif . I think im just going to skip school for a month.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/a_frusty.gif

HMeeder, I just finished reading your article. Really good. I'd like to add one thing. On the outer caliper adjuster, I foundthat there was a c-clip just above the locking nut. If you can please add it to your tech article. Thanks. I did have the two o-rings for the adjusters but one was round (original is squared) and the other too big.
