Can't decide which head to rebuild
I have to rebuild right away, and I'm nervous about making the right decision. I'm building off a core with the '76-78 2.0L heads (022 101 372G) from SIR-these heads have small valves and many replaced studs. I also have a set of heads I pulled from a 1.7L Type 4 (#022 101 372)-I can't find that number without the G, they have the 1.7L shaped comb. chamber. The engine seemed all original and agreed #'s with its chassis -a 914 built in '69. These heads look perfect and have no stripped studs. I also have a 1.8 engine that I could pull heads from-I haven't yet verified if the heads are 1.8L.
I plan to install bigger valves-I'll try to pick a size to support my Weber 44s with 32mm venturis and matching Web Cam up here at 5000ft. Along with new valve seats and guides. I I'm just wondering if there is a difference in the performance or quality of these heads so I can choose a pair to have rebuilt. Thanks! Ben |

Do the 1.7 heads have the small pushrod tubes holes, if so not my favorite heads. Besides, the 1.7 heads also have the small intake passage. 1.8 heads are a better starting point IMHO

I think they do have the small pushrod tubes. I could not find any info on intake port differences, but the 1.7L and 2.0L Bus heads both have 1.34" intake ports. Does anyone know the diameter of the 1.8L intake ports?
