Need Help to ID a crankshaft..
I have a seller with what he says is a 2.0 crank that came out of a 1.8 case. Trying to figure out if it's correct without having to measure it. Are there any identifying makes or can anyone tell from the ones I have in the photo? And help is appreciated, as always.

Looks like a stock German 2.0 cranks to me. Obviously the best way to tell 1.8 to 2.0 would be measuring the rod journals. 2.0 should be 50mm and 1.8 should be 55mm. The 2 I have in front of me look identical except one says "D 10 VW" and the other says "H 10 VW".
It looks like it has been ground at least once as the shallow gutters on the sides of the journals look a little too thin for a std/std crank. |

JR!!! Always dropping the knowledge. Shoot me a txt. I lost your number when I went to anew phone. couple guys out here that have been wrenching on 914's and I was trying to reach you and see if you wanted to stand around a speculate with us.
Any chance you would part with one of the 2.0 cranks in front of you? Might save me some speculation and shipping cost if so.

There's an aircooled VW shop in Phoenix on 24th street that does excellent work (they did my heads). They quoted me $175 outright for a reground German 2.0 crank. I'll text you their details in the morning. I'd love to come look at some 914s. It's been years since I've even been around them. |
