I wonder why the air bag didn't go off ;)

In 1980 I smashed my first 914 into a large tree while sliding sideways at a high rate of speed. There was about 2 feet of space left between the doors, the windshield was completely gone, the right rear tire was under the trunk and the transaxle was broken clean in two. Both myself and the young girl riding shotgun walked away with nothing more than a few scratches. Thank god I don't have any pictures of that one. I get scared just thinking about it.

The car had around 60,000 miles on it at the time, I sold it to Aase bros for $750. :(

"No such thing!"

I totally agree. A 'good crash' is one you walk away from, I didn't mean to see any humor in any crash, least of all a 914.

The thought behind this thread was to see photos which demonstrate how extraordinarily good these simple cars perform in a crash...to protect its occupants.

Performance of crumple zones, side door beams...targa bars...you know, show us what we can expect from the earliest cars to the 76ers.

Nice save. I wish you had said that in the begining. Kinda puts a positive spin on a negative topic. That first car did absorb a lot of energy to leave the cabin intact like that.

This shot was at the Sebring PCA club race last year. Really screwed up that BBS wheel. I don't know any details of what happened.

I think it was god punishing him for that wing. :D

Zeke 01-05-2003 07:45 AM

That's a crazy cold air box on that thing, eh?

URY914 01-05-2003 08:45 AM

I think the way they attached the wing looks a lttle weak. That's alot of wing and four bolts packed together to attach it. They need a larger mounting plate. And yes the air box is a little too much. But hey, they would say things about my car if they saw it too, so I better stop.
