Server problems?

Have you guys noticed anything odd about the server? I just upgraded my firewall and Internet Explorer to version six, and sometimes when hitting on reply or submit, it gives me a quick page not found. I mostly use this computer for reading the BBS, and haven't seen it on any others. However, one person said they were getting CGI errors more and more from the server.

???

I tried several times to get on to this BBS about an hour ago, and while I didn't wait long enough to get an error message, it took an enormous amount of time to load, so I went elsewhere for awhile.

It seems to be better now???

Wayne, I've noticed the same thing using MS Internet Explorer ver. 6.0, but only when using the search function. Must be another MS "glitch"...

I get the page not found at some point at least every other time I log on and always have. I just thought it was part of the lousy dial up experience.

Edit: Just tried to read the third thread of this session, I got the message again. But I was able to come over here and edit this post no problem. It comes and goes.

I tried to post a note and some pictures, but it's not working too well. I'll try later.

I got the CGI error a couple times yesterday. So far so good today.

Are you guys using IE6? I've been using my new laptop with XP, and I haven't had the problem once. Yet upstairs on my desktop, I seem to get it a lot. I thought it might be the firewall...

You may be on to something. I've never had the problem on my XP machine, but have had it numerous times on my Win2000 system. It's probably not a "flaw" in Win2000 but a "feature" in XP. (at least that's what Microsoft would have you believe)

These problems started fairly recently. Probably within the last three weeks. These type of problems can be difficult to track down, there are so many variables. However, based on the error messages that I have seen, I would look at the server first. With PHP and GGI being interpretive, I might guess that the server is bogging at times. It may be time for some code optimization.

If this helps, the two systems I referred to are configured for the same type of browsing experience. That includes:

IE6 SP1
Crazy Browser 1.0.5 (IE wrapper)
AdSubtract (inline proxy, blocks ads)
