new rear clip
Spent most of the day yesterday fitting and welding in a new rear clip on my 73. Im in the process of rebuiling after a complete strip-down. My intention is to build a track/autocross car that will be street legal. Im so stoked on learning to weld, Its actually a lot of fun to do

Probably a good time to put in a body anti-flex kit and to make sure the passenger side ear where the swing arm attaches is in good shape. The spilt battery acid likes to flow down the inside of the two pieces....ask me how I know...

The body on this car is actually amazingly rust-free. There was some corrosion under the battery box that i sandblasted and painted over with por-15, but thats about it. Im planning on doing some additional strengthening/stiffening by welding in steel tubing. My ultimate goal is to have a roll cage thats tied in to all the suspension points.

Mine was too....the acid ate the ear from the inside, out. I was putting in my engine to go racing and noticed a stress crack......I welded a scab plate over it and it held very well....I always felt lucky I checked before I bolted that 200 hp motor back in. Imagine what I would have looked like if it let go at 140mph in a turn.....
