914-6 Header Options.
 

I am wondering if anyone has a photo of their desired approach to using headers on a 3.0 conversion? I have a set of decent headers to fit my 3.0SC heads but they stop short of the mating locations on my Dansk muffler that is well hung on the tranny mount bracket.

There are two pieces of the header pipe setup that I am missing / those that mate the headers to the muffler,.... and maybe I will not find a source for these pieces but rather, have to fab them in the shop.

It is a long shot, but maybe someone has a picture of the completed puzzle.

Sidebar: I bought the headers from a guy that did not know the brand so I don't have that tiny bit of all-important info as well.... :confused:

There are several different manufacturers of header, and they all seem to do things a little differently. Some are designed to bolt megaphones on, and the megaphones are somewhat long. A bracket welded to the middle of the megaphones goes up to the trans mounting point, not one at the muffler flange. Others are intended to mate up to a stock-ish muffler and so they end where the stock heat exchangers do.

Thanks Dave: Do you know if 911 SC headers can be turned around to work with a 911 SC motor in a 914-6 conversion? I bolted them up that way (out of the car) and see no problem with fabricating a stubby pipe to go between the SC headers and the muffler behind the tranny. I am using a Bishoff altered to a twin pipe sport config. Cheers

I do not know for certain, but I doubt it would work. Otherwise that would be a relatively common route for folks with conversions to go, and it would even allow them to keep the heat--and I've never heard of it being done before. My suspicion is that it fouls on the suspension console or something similar. Worth checking if you have access to a motor and a chassis.

there are a lot of goofy bent-pipe headers & 3-bolt hotrod flanges out there - dunno how these guys are all making money on 'em given the tiny market :confused:

long time ago i tested the "cheap 911" reversal idea - no joy - forget it - interferes with too much important other stuff under your engine/trans :( - remember someday you are going to do a valve adjustment

here is the old-school "triad" solution - bolts straight up to 911 oem/sport mufflers/flanges - these are mine - 1-5/8 jet-hot coated, now on 3.2 - previously on 2.8 & 2.7rs when i was racing

p.s. - the pic you show above of the black ones - probably Triads, or a copy

- they are so called "euro-length" designed for we who race megaphones or non-oem mufflers - you have to fab the extensions to use with oem type muffler - if you look at old pics of the factory GT racers - you will see this ext-pipe setup on them

i have a set of those FS - along with megaphones & a Bursch extractor & new twister muffler - also ceramic coated - b'ot from Byron for a 2nd project that i gave up on - the extractor & Twister came from Rich McGlumphy's 914- 3.2 race car

guys - here is the solution to adapter stubs to match various short headers to a stock 914/6 or 911 muffler position

inquiry & several other current running posts by Haag on World & Pelican caused me to search for an answer this morn

- one can buy the Porsche exhaust flanges from SPD Import Header Flange Specs

Turning around 911 headers to fit a 914 requires modifying the headers so they don't hit the chain boxes. Not worth the effort for the typical application.

That is true / the 911 headers fit one side but not both / Hence the solution in this photo. I think they are Triad headers.. but dont know for sure. They fit perfectly in any case.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1490027208.JPG
