Another new member Bought my 914 about a year ago. I searched for nearly a year for a 73/74 but "settled" for a beautiful, rustfree sunflower yellow 75 2.0 FI with 89K miles, console, swaybars, and yellow/black tartan seat inserts which are still in like new condition. I bought the car from the original owner who was a PCA member and judge. I had a new 72 model when I was in college and I always said one day I would own another one. I have recently purchased parts cables, seals, bulbs, etc from PP and found their products and service great even when ordering cross-country here in NC. Have learned a lot by reading the various threads on this BB and the tech articles on PPs website. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/13803-9l.jpg [img]http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/13803-4l.jpg |

Welcome to the fold! Enjoy the forum, don't take us too seriously when we harrass relentlessly, and feel free to ask stupid questions. |

Welcome Randy, That is a beautiful car! I see it has Oregon license plates. Did you drive it back to North Carolina? bruce |
|
No, I had it shipped back via covered carrier rather than risk driving. It is much too nice to risk an accident etc on a cross-country trip. It still has the original windshield with the VW emblem in the lower left corner and I didnt want the possibility of cracking that with a rock. |

Yipee! Another North Carolina 914 owner! Welcome to the group. |

How many of us (914 owners) are there in NC? |

hey randy ....... somewhere around '72 or '73 .... at atlantic beach ... i rode in either a dark green or maybe red (i think) 914, (the '70s are a little fuzzy) .... it was the 1st 914 i had ever seen ....... the guy that owned the 914 was one of randy's friends from rocky mount. we drove down east for some reason .... i just remember riding in the center seat and the curvie roads!! at that time the guys from r.m. were living down by the triple S fishing peir. randy hall owns a surf shop now in rodanthe, i haven't seen him in a long time. doug |

Doug, My 72 was yellow and I was living in Wilson going to college at ACC. I always wondered what happened to some of the old RM guys. Didnt know Randy H was in the surf shop business. I get to the outer banks every now and then, I may look him up on my next visit. By the way I just sold a mobile home I owned at Triple S! The pier is still there. Not much has changed over the years. Do you ever get back to NewBern? Where is Indiatlantic? Randy |

Welcome Very nice looking car! I'm another NC 914 junkie. If in Burlington, look me up. David Pritchard '74 2056cc |

David, Glad to hear from you. Any knowledgable 914 mechanics in the burlington/greensboro or any area east of there? Randy |

Mechanics I used to live in Raleigh, and the only place that knew what a 914 was was in Cary. I can't remember the name though. I have bought some parts from a guy in Fayetteville who runs a business called BugHaven. Specializes in bugs but he ows a 914 with a hopped up 2.4 L, IIRC. Since moving back to Burlington, I'm pretty much the only one who has touched this car. I have repaired rusted out areas, rebuilt the top end to a 2056, adjusted the FI to compensate for the few extra cc's, and pretty much everything else that needed to be done. Sometimes right and sometimes wrong. I wish I had some names to give you, but I don't. Good luck to you. This site is by far the best place to get info. and ask questions. I would have gotten rid of my 914 many years ago if not for the great info. and help I've gotten from these guys. David Pritchard |
