correct timing
ok, here is my problem. i got my carb on and got my dwell set.i thought i had the timming set right but not sure.it idles great and revs up great but when i drive it there is a different story. when i take of it fills slugish and then takes off. if i'm riding along and just stomp the gas it fills like the car is going to die and then takes off.i need to know what the timming should be set at(at idle).i have the dwell set at 50 degrees at 3500 rpm. i have a 1.8L and i have a 32/36 dfav progressive on it.(i know it's not great but that's all i have for now)

sounds like no accelerator pump to me.

consult pete dublers tech article here.

I'm a D-Jet guy, but agree with Hardflex in that it sounds more like a carb related problem than timing to me.

I'm going to have to go with the assumption that you're using the stock distributor, in which case you need to hook up the vacuum advance to get that little burst of timing when you step on the gas. If you've got Weber IDFs that don't have vacuum advance ports, you can send them to aircooled.net to have them put in. Costs $75 + shipping to do two (which you should do and T them together).

i acually have a 009 distributor. could that be the problem? do i need the vacumm advance? it run good if i accelerate slow. the problem is when i stomp it.

the 009 is not highly thought of here. there a tech article at on distributors in the tech section of cal-look.com which describes why. Maybe it will help.
