Oil path

So is this drawing below correct? We have a factory tank and an oil cooler believed to be from an RX-7 with an internal thermostat. Thank you guys for the details !

That looks like it'll work. The cooler is in the scavenge circuit, so it will pull hot oil out of the sump and push it through the cooler on the way back to the tank.

Just make sure that the thermostat sends oil directly to the tank when it is closed!

Thanks Dave for the heads up about the thermostat returning oil to the tank when closed.
For a complete understanding of the drawing above, where do the other hose lines go that lead into the tank marked 15 and 16?

Those are breathers. I don't know where they go; I haven't really mucked about with the six-cylinder cars enough.

I suspect that most often in conversion cars they are plumbed to a catch bottle of some kind.

15 comes from the breather (vent) on the top of the crankcase, 16 goes to the air cleaner assembly.

I am finishing a 914/6 conversion and I am having problems with the oil pressure - green light doesn't go off.

Here are the facts:
- Engine has been working fine on a testing bench, connected to a normal oil tank (from a 911)

- we installed a front air cooler
- I installed a specific oil tank from Patrick Motorsport and the correspondent oil filter console.

Here is a bad schematic Of what is installed:
Hi, seems you might have this working without the cooler but noticed in the drawing the feed and pressure return side are reversed. In a 914-6 the left side engine mounted oil cooler needs the large oil feed (-16AN or M30) from the tank. That tank has M22 female ports which will accommodate M22-M30 or M22-16AN uinons. Having a T or 2 part line here will help servicing. The right side of the engine/car is the pressure (return) side coming from the early style union M26 male. This carries the oil to the cooler. On that smaller engine oil pump the -12AN is the optimum size. The additional engine oil cooler and oil capacity will help big time even if not racing the car.

-16AN feed and -12AN min return always unless one is runing a 3.0+L engine.. if larger engine, -16AN ideal. We do allot of coolers here in AZ. Hope this hps guys!
