does anyone know the common protocol for selling parts long distance over the internet? do the parts come first, or do you pay first, or pay half? who handles the shipping?

Usually, the Buyer pays shipping and insurance (at buyers option) costs for delivery unless stated in the ad that the seller pays shipping. Buyer then pays seller by personal check which the seller holds item until it clears the bank, or by money order or cashiers check, unless the seller accepts credit cards.
On acceptable payment, the seller then ships item. This and other 'sales' sites require as policy that the buyer can return the item for ful refund if not satisfied. |

Common protocol is to send pictures or a very good description and to warrantee all the part(s) for a fair amount of time. 15-to 30 days is fair I think....or to sell as-is. A buyer coming back at you after 18 months is out of line...
I send MOST everything COD, UPS. The buyer has a right to inspect and refuse the shipment. The funds should be in a Money Order or Cashier's Check. UPS no longer takes cash. Be advised that UPS destroys, tops and hoods. So either pack VERY well, and insure it, or use FedEx for the big stuff. All shippers have a weight limit (150lbs) and a size limit. Hoods don't make it at UPS, FedEx sometimes takes them.... Good Luck [This message has been edited by mikez (edited 09-03-1999).] |
