Chris, I see you got the motor in. Looks good. You should post a few picks of the rear flares on the car, really nice. The main hoop you bent for me fits real good, I'm still a long way off from finishing.
When does this car go to the paint shop?

Looks good, Chris! Looks like it's already been to the paint shop from that shot. How about some more pix? What kind of ignition system are ya using?

I have had this car since last April, except while it was at the paint shop for two months. I was originally hired only for chassis reinforcement and rear fender flares, as well as some minor rust repair. It has turned into a total restoration that will exceed the price of a new Boxster. Currently the exterior is still in primer,and it goes back to the paint shop tomorrow. The painter is also doing the detail work on the trim and interior I think (he's an american car resto expert).
I had hoped to have the engine running over the weekend, but the Vellios oil tank was f'ed up - the oil filter doesn't seat properly. There is a gap greater than 1/8" on one side of the gasket when the filter is screwed on all the way.
The engine is a 12:1 comp., 2.7 liter built by Motormeister with Electromotive ignition. Estimated HP is 240.
The interior will be red and black leather, red carpet, seats and gauges done by Renegade Hybrids.

The New steering wheel will be a MOMO.

I'll have better pics of the bodywork after painting.

Is that a stock 4 shift rod? I thought you couldn't do that because it would bump into the engine. Just curious, as I have this homemade straight rod that is a PITA to adjust.

The owner had Renegade do all the gauges. They really squeezed that quad gauge together inside the stock housing. The only thing I don't like is the lack of an oil idiot light.

I reshaped the stock shift rod myself, because it didn't clear the header. Hopefully it will work out right. I had TerryCable make a custom throttle cable, but with the first one I ordered I got the dimensions wrong. Now the installation will have to wait until it returns from the painter. I still have to make a bracket where it attaches to the engine. The clutch cable housing is too long also. Maybe I'll have them make a custom one of those too.

I think the headers are by B&B. I only make 4 cylinder headers. There's a Magnaflow muffler attached at the rear. I can hardly wait to hear it running.

The flares are my own custom design, made using the original quarter panel, with some new metal added. They incorporate features I have never seen anywhere else. I could probably make them for others if they cut off their QP and shipped it to me, as I have forms and a 914 chassis to check the fit. Actually, I can make them any width, and have made a set with 5" additional room underneath. The flares on this car are 2 1/2".

You gotta see Chris' flares in person to really appreciate them. From the side, they appear to maintain the stock body lines, but from the back, wow, the car gets wiiide!!!! They look really awesome, they blend right in like they are supposed to be there from the factory. I can't wait to see pics of this car after the paint. Nice job!!

I'm curious why the clutch cable needs to be modified. Isn't the transmission and bellhousing in the original (4-cylinder) location? Does something change on a six conversion? (Besides the engine! LOL!)

Hey, Chris--any reason you didn't substitute a straight rod for the bent section of the rear shift rod?

Mike,
The clutch cable housing no longer has to go around the sump of the engine, so the sheath is a little too long. It has to be put in an odd S shape to hold it up, or it would hang down under the engine. I have no idea how the factory made this work, but I think a shorter cable would be perfect.

Since I was starting with the original rod, I thought it was quicker to simply reshape it a little. It didn't take me long with a torch and a snowbank. :) The alternative would be to cut the ends from the tube and reweld them to a straight tube. If I took all the bends out of the original tube it would be too long. I made sure that the ends were in line so the result is the same as a new rod.
