Rear 5 bolt suspension Question??

Hi,

Can Early 911 rear axle and brake fit right in on 914?? I know if I use 911 brake, will not have e-brake anymore. But just wondering if they fit.
Thanks

Kim

I remember someone saying a 69-73' 911 rear would work. I think there is a slight difference in the axels with the 911 being a bit shorter. Supposedly they will work with no problems though. My memory on things is a little suspect so I would do I a search on the rear conversion. Pelicans tech article probably covers it too! Good luck

Well, IIRC the early 911 rear hub you are reffering to came with a solid rotor, in which case you would use the 914-6 rotor and keep your rear calipers the way they are. You will need different drive axels as well with the 911 stub axel, for use with the 911 hub. If you want ventilated rear rotors, there is no easy way, but it can be done. I did it with M calipers from the front of a 911. I have rear M's as well, but haven't fitted them yet. Others have, it's just a matter of spacers and longer bolts (high grade). The pads don't exactly fit the rotor surface this way. My pads are all the way on the surface.

The easiest way is to keep 914 axels, stub axels and hubs. Redrill the hubs and choose your brakes.

If you can find the parts, you can use 901/911 tranny drive flanges, early 911 CVs, 911 Stub axles, and 911 hubs. Then you can mount SC or Carrera brakes rotors and calipers. You can even mount the 911 E-Brake system onto the trailing arm. The trick is the difference in length btwn the 911 CV axle and the 914 CV axle. You may need the spacer, I have these available. Also, if you find all the parts, but the 911/901 tranny drive flanges, I have adapters available to mate the 911 CV to the 914/901 drive flanges.

Thanks for all of you. So early 911 will fit, but just short axle, how about the 914 rear control arm with 911 bearing and 911 hub? The flange you guys talk about is it from the trans connect to axle(with six bolt)?
Thanks

Kim

If my memory is working, the early rear 911 bearing and the 914 wheels bearings are the same. The tranny 901/911 flange has a large OD than the 914/901 drive flange. I will have to check if it is 6 bolt, or 4 bolts with 2 pins. The 911 axle setup that is on my 914

I have just removed the complete axles, and hubs from my 70 911T, and they are definetly shorter than tha 914, and the CVs are much larger. As a matter of fact the CV completely fills the pocket behind the 914 hub in the arm.
-Is this of concern, or is the marginal clearance not a problem?
-How does the 911 CV go onto the 914 axle shaft?
TIA
Mike

I can take pictures if any one is interested

Yes, please take some picture, I want to understand more.
And few more question:
Is early 911 (68'-71') use 901 transmission, if so, that will be perfect fit in the hub, bearing and the to 914 transmission. BUT the only thing is 911 have shorter axle. Is that right??
For the front whole suspension converstion, do I need to change the rack-n-pinion too??
Thanks for your time.

Kim

The 911 CVs fit into the trailing arm w/o an issue, though, it is a tight fit. The 911 CV does not goi onto the 914 CV axle.

Yes, some early 911s had 901 gearboxes. The drive flanges are interchangeable with 901/914 drive flanges

The rack on a 911 is the same as on a 914
