Low idle - UPDATE
I've got the car running fairly well. I did not mention earlier, that my 914's registration status in "non-op". I'm not able do get the car out on the road for a good run. My test runs are limited to a pass or two on the road out in front of where I live.
The next problem I wanted to address is that I am not getting any increase in idle speed when the motor is cold. Yesterday I pulled the auxillary air regulator. I was looking at it and discovered that a small piece of vaccum hose had been inserted in both the inlet and the outlet. I don't remember having those on the auxillary air regulator on my 1.7. Is that normal, or did someone jury rig a valve that wouldn't close?? Thanks, Daris |
That is not normal. When cold the valve should be open so air passes thru. It has a little heater on the bottom of it so as it warms up it closes tight. First make sure when the engine is running that there is 12v to it. It probably is rusted stuck so squirt some PB Blaster into it and let it soak to free it up. Apply 12v and see if it closes so no air flows thru. There is a way to open it also to fix it.

That's what I figured. Just wanted to double check.

If the cold idle is no lower than the warm idle, I'd say everything was working well enough...
