Need photo of 914 on fire...

A couple years ago there was a post showing a 914 by the side of the road, with the engine bay on fire.

I searched the archives here, but came up empty.

Anyone have that pic or a similar photo they could post again?

What a sad photo. The car even looks like my favorite 914 of all time - an Adriatic six...w/5 lug Mahles...

Thanks for the link Anthony.

There is another photo I was looking for though...I think this came from a newspaper, as I remember it was a black and white picture...

That brings back a bunch of painful memories. My first one BBQ back in Spring of 82. Nothing I could do but watch it burn.

The darn things burn good, don't they . . . Makes me want to go out to the garage and inspect my fuel lines.

Scg, thats the one I remember...

When I first saw Rousers, I knew it was similar, in fact I thought it was the saem car from a different angle, but I remember the one Scg has. The two cars are different...

As for why....well I think the point was made by the reactions here. Be sure to frequently change out your fuel lines....Our cars are not known as hot cars and I would like to keep it that way.

Are fuel injection cars more prone to fires than those with carbs?

Is it to do with fuel pressure? The FI cars have 35lb psi pressure in their fule lines which is more likely to find it's way out then a carb car with juse 3 or 4 lb psi pressure.

Am I right?

The fuel pressure does not help the situtation, but even carbed cars at 3-4 psi can have fuel leaks with the same result.

Replace all rubber fuel lines every 3-5 years and check them and their fittings annually.

Seeing those pictures makes me feel like a family member has passed.

The orginal plastic fuel lines get brittle over time. The orginal rubber fuel lines that lay on the motor hardend from the heat and there was a recall on them. As Jeff says replace the rubber fuel lines every 3to5 years using the Porsche high pressure fuel line. Don't use the rubber hose you get at the FLAPS as its the wrong stuff! The Porsche hose will take the engine heat and not hardend and crack spraying gas all over the hot engine resulting in a -Big Fire!

Most of the 914's I work on this is the first thing I do, replace the fuel lines! $20 in hose big deal

Geoff

I think this is another of Jeff's attempts to get one of the "most viewed" threads.
