Question about upgrading the size of the engine...
Hello everyone,
Okay I am a novice. Well so much so My Mechanic says I know just enough to be dangerous. So if I sound stupid, forgive my ignorence. I have a silly question. If I you were to upgrade a 1.8 to a 2.0 with one of those aftermarket Big Bore upgrade kits, Wouldn't you need to adjust the Fuel Injection to compensate for the difference? In all the posts on this subject that part is kinda left out. What is mostly left out is actualy how do you adjust an L-Jet to compensate? The reason I am asking is because I went for a drive in another 1.8 that did not have close to the power of, what I thought, was my stock 1.8. I have a few clues that the PO may have put in a 1900cc (94mm) or so upgrade kit, but I am not exactly sure. Is there a way to tell without breaking it down? I had a 1.8 with a big bore (1911) and kept the stock FI, no problems.
I also had a Euro spec 2.0 (higher compression) running the stock 1.8 L-Jet system and never had a problem as well. |
I run a 96mm, 9.2:1 Mahle Big Bore kit with a Webcam made for the stock D-Jet FI in my 73'. No mods to the FI and no problems. At least until I tried to advance the timing a "tad" and burned tow pistons.
