I need warm air
Is there a way to get warm air to flow out of the front defroster instead of cold air ?

Push the red lever on the dash all the way to the right & pull the red lever on the floor back. That will give you max defrost. That is of course unless something is missing or broken.

That just gives cold air through the defrost in the front. I have
SS exchangers and new heater flapper box's. Are you saying warm air should be coming out ? |

The low here was only 35 degrees last night.
I can't leave the defrost on in mine for more than 5 minutes w/out starting to bake. Have to keep turning the blower (floor lever) off and on. Mark 73 2.0 |

The front vents should only blow fresh air
the lowervents and the defrost vents will blow warm air. that is unless things have been modified |

I may be a little slow to catch on, but I think Neal isn't really having problems w/ his heater at all.

In my expert judgement, the thingy that connects the warmth, to the front air is busy, or missing.
Reinstall Windows, or at least roll them up, and wear a scarf. M

You sure that you have the fresh-air control (on the dash) fully closed? The lever on the dash that controls the fresh-air blower should be fully to the left when the heater is on.

Neal, are you getting ANY warm air? Or just not warm air to your windshield defrost.

Ahh, the front vents DO blow hot air. If you have the red slider to left, the heat comes out of the floor. If you put it in the middle, it comes out of the front and if you put it to the right, it comes out of the defrost. If you want just heat, do not mess with any of the other sliders on the dash. The top one controls the fresh air fan and the middle one controls where that fresh air goes. When you put in the new flapper boxes, are you sure that you attached the cable to them? Are you sure that the electrical connection on the center console knob is connected and working? If it is, you should hear the booster fan in the engine compartment come on. The booster fan is only on when the lever is pulled all of the way up. Anything less just opens the flappers and allows the engine fan to blow hot air in the car which will increase with engine rpm of course. peter

Thanks to all for the replys, I tried the red lever all the way to the right and I have heat coming out of the defrost with the heater on.
I will re-read the pelican article about how the climate control works. This came about because I just replaced my front blower after not having a blower for about 3 years. I went through a lot of towels. Thanks Neal ![]() |

Neal, I have to change my front blower. Mine has not worked for years.
It looks like a pain to get out. Did you have to pull the gas tank out to get the blower out? Thx, Mark 73 2.0 |

I just did mine over the weekend.
I had to pull the gas tank to do it, not really a pain but I've done it twice (once to pull the fresh air unit and once to put in the repaired unit) and my hood's still not quite lined up correctly... My fan's a little loud and the air doesn't blow out of the side vents nearly as hard as it does when directed towards the floor.

I wimped out and had the work done, I had to find a used blower and have it drop shipped, I am glad I had it done because I have been fighting gas leaks for awhile. I have had the tank out 3 or 4 times and had replaced the gas line with gas line I purchased from an auto parts store. When we got the tank out the gas line was cracked and weeping gas. Monty the mechanic replaced all the lines with the good german fabric line. He said the typical gas line you can buy just do not hold up. I tried to buy the blower from Pelican but they did not have them I ended up buying from German Parts and Restoration who in my experiance are great guys. $75:00 for the blower.
I have not posted for along time and I forgot how helpful all the 914 people are. (my car has been rock solid) Much appreciated Neal |
