Southern Cal 914ers...brakes are a lil soft, where to get fixed?

Okay,
So upon driving my new 914, the only adjustment I can see at this point is in the brakes. The brakes are soft and I gotta pump them to get a good stop, which indicates to me the master cylinder needs replacing. Any ideas where I could possibly get this done this weekend/next week? And just outta curiosity am I right in figureing about $200 for parts and labour?

By the way, I live in the Thousand Oaks area, but I am willing to drive into Los Angeles or Orange County, just not too far cuz I am a lil nervous about the stopping power:rolleyes:

do a search on brakes and proportioning valves...many causes for the soft pedal...old fluid, air in the system, worn amster cylinder, the proportinoing valve, worn/old rubber brake lines...

Have you bled the system?

Best shop I know of--your own driveway. You know the car (hopefully), and you care more than any mechanic about how well the brakes work. Take your time and do a good job and you may very well wind up saving money.

Check the pads, and flush & bleed the system.

When I bought my car last summer, the front pads were almost down to bare metal and the brake fluid looked like coca-cola. That doesn't help...

WOW....brake fluid maintenance...what a concept.....8^)

I will be in the T.O. area over the weekend. I could swing by and take a look if you like.

Jarred,
That would be really great. I don't have the tools as of yet to do the bleed job properly, as I am kinda new to the mechanical side, but that would be sweet. Email me at billy.slater@sagepub.com before 5pm today or at b.spaceman@verizon.net after 5pm. Thanks guys!

No problem. I will show you how to do the bleeding procedure as well as bring you a couple of pelican stickers. Just buy me a beer and we'll call it quits.
