Anyone used a Dynomax muffler on their 914?
Just wondering if anyone has tried a custom muffler setup using a Walker Dynomax muffler. I've heard that the Dynomax is one of the quietest best flowing mufflers available.
Any ideas what kind of exhaust note I'd get using a Dynomax on a 2270 Type 4? Thanks, Joel ____________________ 1974 914 2.0L (soon to be a 2.3L) |

Have I got some data for you....
![]() http://type4power.dyndns.org/video.htm I have some videos comparing mufflers on a 2270. I was running a Super Turbo muff (pretty much like the Dynomax you are talking about) and then I switched to a 40 series Flowmaster. The flowmaster does flow better, you can actually feel a difference. But, it is... Ahem, a bit more aggresive. I like it. Later, Tom |

I had a race (straight-thru) Dynomax on my 2.4 and later swapped it for a Flowmaster Delta-Flow 40 Series. They are both very loud, but the Dynomax was just brutal...the Flowmaster is noticably mellower at low RPM's. The Flowmaster also has a teeny bit of backpressure which probably helps keep the midrange powerband a bit.

Any suggestions on a muffler system that's quiet and flows well for a 2270? Just for street applications, no racing.

Be careful about the overall size, shape and inlet position also, if you're attempting to fab up something that will fit in the stock position. You will basically need something about the size of the little can on the Bursch's. When I bought my car, it had essentially a nice custom stainless version of the Bursch style J-tubes -- except bolted up to a eurorace header -- and used a Thrush muffler. The exit was in the stock position and it was pretty quiet (too quiet actually, the carbs were way louder than the exhaust)
