Need advice please with purchase

Have an opportunity to purchase 73 914 w/ 74 2.7 RS Mtr 901 trans 5 spd - CIS rebuilt w/ 70k miles. Car is in decent shape with shifter - suspension - oil cooler - sump mods. Any thought on what this vehicle might be worth? private party - cash purchase, thanks...

If it has CIS it's not an RS motor. The RS ran much wilder cams than CIS can support, and ran MFI. Worse fuel economy and emissions; much better throttle response and power.

Still, a 2.7 is a 2.7. The value depends on a whole lot of variables, like how much rust is in the car (immediately discount any claims of "NO RUST"; these cars rusted on the boat coming over from Germany!), the condition of the motor, what kinds of parts were used in the conversion, and so on.

A total rustbucket is probably worth a couple of grand for parts. Maybe a bit more if it has 914-6 heat exchangers and some other harder-to-find parts. A nice driver is probably worth $15-25K, while a really-done-well conversion can be in the $50K range.

Picture is worth 1000 words. You mention upgrades but nothing too specific. As Dave mentioned, likely NOT an RS motor if still CIS. So.. "sump mods" on a 2.7 6 cylinder? not sure what you mean here. Suspension specifics? 911 suspension? Adaptors? Brake upgrades? Street car? Track car? How is the rust?

The questions I should be able to answer after my viewing this SAT. Information I got was over the phone so my post was probably somewhat misleading. And yes, pictures...I am excited that the build is time period. 73 chassis, 74 motor. Thanks for the feedback.
