Interior Color Change

Does anyone have any experience with changing the color of interiors, i.e., seats, bolters, door panels, with a spray dye product? I would like to change my interior from brown to black and I've had some local shops tell me that there is a product called 7-in-1 Auto Color that works well with vinyl. whattayathink???

I've no real experience with "wearable" vinyl. . . I had a Spitfire that I black trim spray painted some brown door panels black. Just ruberized black spary, looked good and held up for 9 years!!! But this vinyl never got sat on or rubbed much. So I don't know. . .

If you do it PLEASE email me with results. I've a black 914 interior that I would LOVE to turn cream/white/ and damn light color.

Thanks ian_griswold@hotmail.com

Was thinking the same thing when I got my "new" 914 with "camel" interior. Thought I wanted black. Almost spent a fortune swapping ENTIRE interior with someone across the country! What I found is easiest, most economical, and aesthetically pleasing is to figure out exactly what you want and then post a want ad for it. For example, I now have a mint condition, black backpad and cubby box cushion that seems like it was meant to go with center console. Cost under $70.00, looks great. Enthusiasts that want everything "stock", etc. would probably disagree but I think it looks great.

My friend had the C2 seats in his 930 done (the car is a '77 with '83 running gear and a '92 body, I think the seats are from around '92) by a pro that works out of the back of a F-150. He did the seats and door panels, but told my friend right off that it wouldn't last long on the seats. The seats were filthy (what do you expect, we built the car ourselves and the seats were light grey. "Dude! We need move C-V grease for the 914, it's 8:55 and DAP closes at 9:00. Let's take the 930, I PROMISE I won't get it dirty." ;-) ) but the cleaning/dying made them look almost new. The color was very even and it filled in most of the cracks. Shortly after the driver seat was replaced with a MOMO and the passenger seat dosen't get much use. It's been a year and the passenger seat is still clean (somehow) but the cracks are coming back.

A little feed back. I used the 7 in 1 product this weekend and was very pleased with the results, so far... We'll see how it holds up under wear. The color was uniformly even and dried in about 10 minutes. The car interior looks new except for a few rips in the seats. Thats next. Anybody know how to repair torn basketweave material? Thanks for all of the helpful advice. This BB Forum by Pelican truely ROCKS!!
