73 2.0 bumper help

I am restoring a '73 2.0, and am wondering if anyone has had experience with the fiberglass "916 style" bumpers. I would prefer to keep the stock appearance, but both chrome bumpers as well as the top rubber are in bad shape. From what I have seen, the cost to retore to original would be prohibitive considering the other parts the car needs.

Any advice on the fiberglass bumpers or other suggestions would be most appreciated.

buy the rubber and wait untill you can affford to get the bumpers rechromed. fiberglass is for boats and 917's. my opinion.

Thanks for the advice. Problem is, the rear bumper is dented--not too bad really, but it is on the edge where it recesses for the license plate. Anyway, I do not think it can be straigtened 100% without some sort of fill, which I fear chrome would not adhere to, at least for the long term. I am correct?

Chrome shops repair bumpers after they have been in a collision. The can make a mangled bumper look better than new.

And don't underestimate the benefit of a well placed sticker!!!! I have something similar............so I have a porsche crest on one side of the license plate, and a USA flag on the other. And it looks good. And it cost about $2.00

You can buy clean used chrome bumpers, you just have to be patient and troll thru the swap meets, web sites, and ebay.

Amark is on the money. Any good body shop in your area will have a working relationship with bumper straightening companies that have presses to straighten, and re-chroming equipment to, well, re-chrome and make the piece better than new.
Those fiberglass bumpers can be alot more headaches than they're ever worth! All it takes is one bump in a parking lot from some soccer mom in her mini van.... and you've got splinters! Ask any 68' to 82' Corvette owner, and those bumpers aren't even hard fiberglass!

The most dangerous thing on the road:
A fat chick, in a Mini Van, on a cell phone, smoking a cigarette, going shopping! BEWARE
