Relocation of fuel pumps.

Hi,

For my 914-6 GT project, I plan to relocate the fuel pumps in the front lid. My pumps are genuine NOS Porsche pumps. Can I install them vertically? Is there a technical reason why they should stay horizontal like in the first mount?

Thanks for your inputs.

Philippe

Not sure about mounting orientation. Maybe something about the threat of raw fuel spilling over the electrical section (although gas fumes + elec. sparks are a big no-no at any position).

However, positioning the pump horizontally may allow more convenient routing paths for fuel line routes that already sit low in the chassis.

Some trunk-mounted fuel pump pics:

Part of it is to have positive pressure to pump intake. Low and on its side the fuel flows down into the pump more easily.
