Engine questions

I have a 1.8 longblock engine I would like to build up to 2056cc at some future date. The engine was running when removed and has been sitting outside under a tarp. I finally have some room to move it inside. I'm afraid I will need to at least inspect the cylinders for water damage...

The engine is going into a recently aquired shell this spring and will be carbed.

My question:What is the difference between the 1.8 and the 2.0 heads? Would I gain anything by popping a set of 2.0 heads on?

Thanks!!

2.0 heads from a 914 are different than 2.0 heads used on buses.

The 914 2.0 heads have three bolts holding the intake on instead of four. If you are going to use carbs, most intakes are drilled for both types.

The valve size of the 2.0 head is slightly bigger than the 1.8, but the 1.8 are not too bad. 42mm vs 41mm intake, but I can't remember the exhaust size off teh top of my head right now.

The spark plug angle is different on the 2.0 head requiring different sheet metal.

The 2.0 heads are reportedly more prone to cracking between the spark plug and valve seat.

The 2.0 heads are terribly expensive.

The 1.8 is a good head, so unless you have all the parts and the 2.0 heads in your hands, it is probably not worth going to them for a mild 2056.
