Turn Signal Switch- not cancelling?

OK, I admitt I'm not the greatest mechanic. I used the post on replacing the starter/ignition switch behind the ignition key and steering wheel removal. After removal and reinstallation, I turned the key and the car started, hurray! It seems to crank a lot more then starts and some times I turn the key and nothing, but after a few turns of the key it starts up again. Is something else going on here?
After I completed the steering wheel installation I took it on a test drive. The turn signals will not cancel after I put them on and complete the turn. They use to work. Everything else seems to work fine. Please someone tell me what I did wrong or what little details did I forgot?

It would seem that something is not put back in correctly. The cancel mechanism is the small tab on the steering wheel/hub assy and has to be on the right side of the column as that is where the turn signal switch is. If you could post a picture of the back of the wheel and the interiior of the switch area it would help greatly. Good luck.

Kevin,
Look on page 106 of the Haynes 914-4 manual. There is an exploded view of the steering column guts. If you don't have a Haynes Manual, and you're going to do more of your own work on your car, you should get a copy. It's a great help. Sorry I don't have a scanner to scan the pic in for you.

When I bought my car, the PO had installed the steering wheel upside down, This prevented the turn signals from canceling and actually if you were going straight the little "finger" on the wheel that cancels the turn signals would switch the high-beams on and off if you'd jiggle the steering wheel just right. I'd say check to make sure that the steering wheel isn't upside down.

If the sterring wheel isn't upside down, you probably bent the "tine". Bend it outward a bit install the steering wheel and test. Keep testing until it works.
