914 - Lost Keys

Bought a Barn Find, this is my 4th. I have had 2 914-6 barn finds (in the 90's) and a 914 1.7 in the early 2000s. This one is a '74 914-2.0.

No Keys came with this '74........

QUESTION - what is the best procedure to have a key made - My initial approach was to take the tumbler from one of the doors and have a locksmith cut a key from the tumbler. Any suggestions or experience would be extremely helpful,

Hello and welcome to the forum! I think that you have the right idea. I'm attaching a link to an earlier thread where this is discussed as well. Hope it helps you out.

Iím not sure about 914s but I lost my keys to my 81 911 and i was able to get one from the dealer with proof of ownership. Although, I have to warn you, it ended up being an outrageously expensive key!

Key Made from Door Handle Lock

UPDATE: I was able to get the entire car tumblers operational (including ignition) with the door tumbler as the reference. Any 'locksmith' can do this work, I was told that it was a bit of a challenge since the tumblers are double-sided.
