Question shipping Q? - transaxle

DONE - thanks all for the ideas - i already had a wood crate from 914Ltd which was heavy & stout - trans bolted in on both ends

- decided to use that - 18x18x27" - 116 lbs total wt

UPS wanted it surrounded by cardboard and preferably stuffed with packing mat'l - 2-day ground ship cost was $160 insured for $1000

fwiw - the associated shift rods & fork & new bushings package went into a separate long box (of course) 42x 7-1/2 x3-1/2", 9 lbs

from NorCal to SoCal

- seek opinions on best way to do that (it is CLEAN & empty)

- will UPS (or other) accept & ship it bare with a label on a tag, or does it need to be boxed and/or crated?

TIA

I have had great results using UShip shipping engine and transmissions. Small independent carrier's can pick up your transmission as is no packaging required, and deliver it for a fraction of what USP or FedEx would charge. You simply create a listing on the site and wait for the lowest delivery bid. Good luck

Something I learned this year: Most Fastenal shops provide a Fastenal-to-Fastenal shipping service, for lower cost and often better service. If you (and your builder) have a Fastenal nearby, you should consider this option.

Shippers love large coolers with handles.

Support the bottom of the trans so it not resting on the shift console. I had one broken in shipping. Either the Rubbermaid container of a 27 gallon tote container at Lowes, Home Depot, or Costco for $12 work good. pack with blocking so it can not shift.
