STOLEN! HELP! NOS 914 Front Clip...

A not so very nice individual felt that he could just appropriate someone else's personal property by simply stealing it and hauling it away as his own. What a jerk! We need your collective help...

My friend owns a Porsche repair shop in the city of Torrance located here in Southern California where his NOS 914 front clip was sitting outside his shop (see photos below). A few months ago, someone helped himself to the front-clip and it dissappeared. Since my friend does not like to email nor does he frequents the internet, I offered to help him locate this valuable piece.

If you or someone you know has any information to the whereabouts of this front clip, or if you know the body shop that may be involved in the installation of this clip, please contact me at ajserrano@msn.com - All leads will remain confidential.

We appreciate all your potential leads and informaation. Happy New Years! Armando ajserrano@msn.com

NOTE:
To the person(s) responsible who stole this part. Please return it to the same location you stole the part from and we will consider this matter closed. If you don't, rest assured I will post to all the Porsche related websites as well as contacting every shop possible. Eventually, a mistake will be made and you can potentially be caught. Why take chances?

Please note that this is a NOS front clip and is does NOT have a chassis serial number stamped (see photo below).
There are very few of these front clips around and fewer the places that can do a good job at grafting it in place.
The thief with a damaged 914 front-end 'may' be looking for a shop that has a 'Celette' chassis jig...

Any information leading to the location or individual(s) responsible for the stolen goods would be appreciated.

You don't have to leave your name and it will remain confidential. You can leave your post here or directly by visiting my website at http://www.pbase.com/9146gt/9146_gt_factory_technical_parts_photos_oddball_stu ff_front_clip - an simply enter your name as a 'guest' (see the first sample post).

I would also contact all scrap yards within 25 miles. Here in Ohio Crackheads steal everything not bolted down ( they shake too much to losen bolts ) and sell it for scrap.

Just saw this. My thoughts would be the scrap yard. Not very many know that piece just to look at it. So much is being stolen just to be scrapped. Some accountability needs to be put in place regarding "scrap" auto parts. Not to mention copper wires, etc.

I sign and print my name just to recycle AL cans. Why can't the bigger yards do this as well as a license plate no.?

Yep. Scrapyard. In San Diego, we have a one eyed scrap guy that would take ANYTHING leaning against the building in broad daylight. Unless someone told him he couldn't have it, he would take it!

Good luck. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Another vote for scrap yards. We have a friend in Connecticut, former race mechanic, who had two 356 4-cam carrera engine cases stolen from his shop, for the scrap aluminum. Sad.

I had the entire AC system, evaporator, condensor, gauges out of a Mercedes W108 sitting on the backyard deck checking for leaks.

Next day it was gone! Along with my lawn mower.

One witness says he say the culprit pushing a mower loaded with "scrap".

I never did locate the missing stuff.

I know how your friend feels.

Good luck.

Having worked for Torrance for nearly 30 years, this type of item (raw steel) is taken all the time by traveling scrappers, meth heads and other scrappers that cruise industrial areas for scrap on a regular basis. Unfortunately, it is probably rebar from South Korea now.
Sorry about your loss.

Sorry A.G. for your loss. I must share a story of a change in times. My customer
just purchased a new open trailer from Carson Trailer. He had parked near his
home in Redondo Beach. He came to pick up his Boxster Spec. Racer with his trailer,
only to find out some had taken his loading ramps from trailer...WOW!

ANY THING THAT IS NOT BOLTED DOWN IS SUBJECT OF BEING TAKEN!

A sign of the times !!!!!

A.G. I will keep an eye out for your clip.

Steve

Holy Cow Steve! Yes, unfortunately not surprising anymore and pathetic. The sad things is, it will continue to get worse, not better. U.S. rated AA+? Wow! Not in the last 70 years....

I caught a guy in my back yard several years ago. He said he was looking for his cat, then asked me if he could have the 55' telescopic radio tower that was laying next to my garage!

I told him I'd give him some metal if I ever caught him on my property again!

I've since installed CCTV cameras and a digital recorder.

probably scrapped

The problem with metal thefts is so bad in NJ the scrap yards are required to keep records of all transactions. Unfortunately, I suspect there is not much monitoring to assure that ALL the transactions get recorded. Last year I had several thousand dollars damage to a rental property because the pipes were stolen before the tenant could move in.

Just had a similar discussion pop up on 914World. A guy bought a 914 and when he came back 2 weeks later to trailer it home, it was 'missing' ... from the seller's yard.

The fact that the car went missing from the seller's yard and he didn't bother to call the buyer to make sure he took it, makes the situation sound kind of fishy.

Last week in Chicago eight school busses were stolen and found in a junk yard all cut up. The news said the scrap value was $50,000 --> nothing is safe anymore.
