New 1984 944 owner

Hi just bought my first 944 its in real good shape kind of a garage find. Its a 1984 non turbo car , was sitting for a while, gas had been treated with stabiler but had to drain it and install new fuel and filter. So far i have changed the oil ,air, plugs ,flush brake fluid, sensors, checked timing belts they have around 17 k on them since last changed. The clutch is going at 125k rubber sounds worn. The problem i am having is hard starting looks like the injectors my be leaking so i pulled them and did the home carb cleaner and battery cleaning, idles much better than before but i still have hard starting after sitting for awhile ......great forum and thanks for any help

Welcome to the 944 family! Check your speed/reference sensors; are they the original units? If so, I would recommend swapping them out for new ones.

Hard starting could be vacuum leaks in the ICV lines, or elsewhere. Does it idle smooth?

update turned out that either my injectors are leaking or the coolant temp sensor is bad , was getting a flooding condition when the car sat after a drive, had to hold peddle to the floor and had strong gas smell from the exhaust apond restart. I ordered new injectors and a sensor will see?????

Don't throw the injectors away; in most cases they can be rebuilt/tested. I know many guys here have used WitchHunter Performance although I sent mine to Injector Repair, LLC in New York with great results.

Agree. In the future, you might check here before ordering pricy parts like that. Injector service costs about $12/ea. They measure flow on arrival, clean the orifices and the entire mechanism, install new filters, install new pieces of hose, then measure the flow afterwards. Mine also includes tiny adjustments to the injectors to get them to more closely match each other on flow. For $12. My local shop is Mr. Injector here in Coeur d'Alene.

update got new injectors installed, new coolant sensor, speed sensor was changed to a bosch, airflo was checked and clean adj thru clarks tut, tested fuel pres 30 lb at idle, still have issue 1. after the car sits like over nite its hard to start pulled a plug and saw small amount of fuel in cyl, my oil level increased a little, when it does start have to hold pedal to floor to clear the flooding.2. idle floats around 900 dropping to 700 rpms at times.3. when you drive there is a delay before the engine picks up speed almost a flat spot any feedback welcome thanks
